The Bluebell Detective Agency is a quirky-cozy detective mystery written by Mo Montgomery

About the BBDA

Murder. Mayhem. Tea?

After getting hit by a Meat Cakes food truck and witnessing his fiancée kiss someone else, Tim Bremington is officially at his breaking point. Desperate for answers, he reluctantly hires young and free-spirited private investigator Rose Kachel to confirm the infidelity, only for her to uncover evidence that may link his fiancée and her family to a recent murder.

The deeper Tim and Rose dig, the faster the case turns dangerous. The murder is tied to a family desperate to stay together, secrets no one is willing to confess, and a truth that puts both of them directly in the killer’s path.

Rose must balance the physical limits of her chronic illnesses with the demands of a case she can’t walk away from, while Tim is forced to confront how much he ignored in his relationship and how much he still has to lose.

If they don’t learn to trust each other quickly, the investigation will cost more than a broken engagement—it may cost one of them their lives.

Welcome to Portland, Oregon. Things are about to get weird.

Kind Words

“This was a refreshing read and well written! I enjoyed it so much and hadn't consumed a book that fast in a while. The characters were relatable and had dialogue that flowed well. The story/ mystery made sense. When I mentioned, I laughed out loud - I meant it! I learned about the Uyghur people and their struggles as well, and I think it showed a perspective not many people think about with immigration - not all of it is the same for everyone. The only other possible thing I could think of is that I wanted more. I would absolutely read more books in the series. Tim and Rose make a great team.” - Anonymous Beta Reader

Great short novel that can be finished in a day. Fast-paced, and I enjoyed it really. Please consider a spinoff from the pet’s perspective!! As an animal lover, I love that!!” - Anonymous Beta Reader

“This book had a wonderful mix of wit, cozy mystery, and a touch of romance. The characters were so interesting. I can’t believe this is your debut novel! The writing is so engaging, and you did a wonderful job at showing the readers, rather than telling us, how the characters felt. The plot was engrossing. I loved the side characters and subplots, as well (especially the guy stealing the cameras in the park). There were heartfelt moments that made the subplots engaging.” - Anonymous Beta Reader

About the Author

Mo Montgomery (she/her) is a neurodivergent (dyslexic), chronically ill, queer, and disabled writer. The Bluebell Detective Agency is her first book in what she hopes will be an ongoing series. She resides in lovely Portland, Oregon, with her husband Will, their two cats/overlords, a plethora of half-dead houseplants (RIP), and a growing herd of dust bunnies. Mo’s been a newspaper reporter and columnist, has taught college courses, and currently works for a wildlife nonprofit. Like Rose, she also has ankylosing spondylitis. Mo has been known to dance in her kitchen while eating, resulting in her nearly choking to death multiple times. She does not recommend you try it.
